For YOU, my Montana Momma

This post is for all of YOU momma's out there!  You see, I had BIG plans to "debut" this blog on the first of the New Year, but some things have come to be... and I cannot see any reason to delay my big campaign anymore!

An acquaintance of mine recently lost her mother to diabetes.  Another acquaintance, informed me that this past fall, before her 5 year old son entered kindergarten, he was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.  Then today, I read a story about a man who got diabetes, and he found out because he suddenly went blind! (I didn't even know this was a possible reaction to diabetes!)

To put the cherry on the sundae, one of my most beloved "Montana Mommas" suffered a heart attack a few days before Christmas.  It breaks my heart that our beautiful, powerful, intelligent country has such a high percentage of people suffering from obesity!  So much is to blame, however, you may find it surprising, but I actually find the victim to be next-to-last in the "blame game."

Firstly, we could ALL be healthier; we could all eat better, exercise more and break bad habits.  However, how are we to know what is good or bad, healthy or not.  Sure, in school, they teach you the food guide pyramid, tell you to exercise and expect that if you follow these things, you will lead a healthy and happy life.  This is so far from true, the food guide pyramid no longer exists, exercise needs differ for everyone and who the heck is teaching these things to adults these days!?

This is what dinner SHOULD look like!
In America, we are having a real problem with health-care and insurance for all of our citizens.  Health-care and insurance is expensive (I'm sure you have noticed!)  So let's say you do not have insurance.  Therefore, you probably do not go to the doctor regularly (or at all!)  Doctors are the ones who should have the information about a health-plan for you, how you should be eating and what exercises you should be doing.  Now, if you aren't going to the doctor, I assume you do not have access to this information (or at least, you don't know where the heck to begin looking!)  Sadly, our nation has our priorities all over the place, and not in the right order by any means!  Someone needs to educate our citizens about how to eat and more importantly, how to live.

I started this blog to educate mommas on how to feed their little ones, to start the seed and plant the knowledge so it can grow with your child.  I find it unacceptable that our wonderful nation cannot even educate our people on how to eat properly, so lets start by doing our own research.

If you have Netflix, I would absolutely recommend watching "Forks Over Knives" on instant queue.  It features the work of Dr. Campbell, who is responsible for the largest research on food ever done, "The China Study."  Please watch it for access to incredible information!

Eat Your Vegetables

This post will be a brief introduction to my newest blog, "Eat Your Veggies."

In this blog, I will be expressing my concerns with America's current epidemic, obesity, heart disease and diabetes; and how we can prevent and treat these problems with healthy eating habits at a young age.

In essence, this is just another mommy-blog, just tailored more specifically to raising a happy healthy family, featuring my feelings and beliefs on such matters.

This blog was inspired by my utter shock at hearing several parents (either friends, acquaintances or random strangers ), telling me that their child has diabetes or some other health problem related to obesity.  My genuine concern for the health of my children began when I learned that this current generation has a 1 in 3 chance of having diabetes.  In fact, the chance raises significantly if the mother had gestational diabetes while pregnant with that child.  These two facts combined frightened me, as I (most likely) had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my daughter, Oona.

After hearing the story of a friend of mine who had a relative die of diabetes, I knew that I could never let me children have this life-long disease.  I am very determined to keep my children healthy and raise them in the best way possible (that goes for my husband too).

So therefore, this blog is currently being established.  I will fill it with information and references to help educate my friends, many of whom are also parents; because I believe that people are not properly informed and therefore cannot make healthy eating choices.  This is my war, to deliver information, because someone has too!
